(314) An Evaluation of Race-Based Representation Among Men Participating in Clinical Trials for Prostate Cancer and Erectile Dysfunction

Abstract Introduction Inclusion of ethnic/racial minorities in clinical trials is essential to fully assess therapeutic efficacy. It well-known that populations respond dissimilarly interventions. This concept has been research ed thoroughly the context urologic oncology research, however into impact demographic characteristics andrology lacking. Objective To analyze inclusion historically under-represented minority men for Erectile Dysfunction (ED) comparison Prostate Cancer (PC) trials. Methods We searched ClinicalTrials.gov disease keyword: “Erectile Dysfunction” and used “Prostate Cancer” comparison. Completed had available data were included analysis. Literature was reviewed determine prevalence ED PC diagnosed among Hispanic, Black, White, Asian men. The proportion individuals each group participated divided by population calculate “Participation Prevalence Ratio” (PPR). PPRs between 0.8-1.2 indicates adequate representation, 1.2 over-representation. Results A total 312 assessed: 289 prostate cancer 23 ED. Hispanic comprised 11.8% trial participants 4.61% participants, yet represented 18% patients 7.3% patients. Black/African-American (AA) accounted 10.2% 9.4% but 16% patients, 16.3% AA are (Hispanic PPR=0.66; PPR=0.63; PPR=0.42; PPR=0.58).
